Press statement | 08.04.2021 World Roma Day - April 8 The Roma Rights On this World Roma Day, the Ombudsmen of Bosnia and Herzegovina want to remind the public and the authorities of the culture, history and language of the Roma, which are not sufficiently recognized and unfairly neglected. By accepting international human rights standards, Bosnia and Herzegovina has agreed to ensure the protection of Roma rights, with full respect for the principle of non-discrimination. Efforts need to be further intensified to eliminate existing weaknesses, to comply with the recommendations of the UN Committee, the UN Human Rights Council and the European Commission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the recommendations of the Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Special Report on the Situation of Roma in BiH. We call on the BiH authorities, within the Regional Cooperation Council for Roma Integration 2020, to continue with the current measures of active and systemic action by accepting the Declaration of the Western Balkan Partners on the Integration of Roma in BiH Society. We congratulate the Roma, and especially the activists within that community, on their holiday and acknowledge their work in overcoming the obstacles they continuously face, with the hope that we will continue to fight together in the future to improve the status of Roma in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
