Press statement | 17.05.2021 Press Release International Day against Homophobia and Trans-phobia On the occasion of the International Day against Homophobia and Trans-phobia, May 17, the Ombudsmen of Bosnia and Herzegovina remind that, since the preparation of the Special Report of this institution on the rights of LGBT people in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2017, no concrete progress has been made to ensure real equality of life of these people. . Regarding the legal framework, no concrete steps have been taken in Bosnia and Herzegovina towards regulating the community of life of same-sex persons, while the notion of intersex is not defined by existing regulations in force in Bosnia and Herzegovina. With regard to the protection of individual rights, there is still hate speech against LGBT people and there are few holders of the highest positions who openly stand up for the protection of the rights of this population. At the same time, the ombudsmen commend the ministries of the interior for organizing trainings on the topic of sensitizing the work of police officers with the LGBT population.
