Press statement | 16.11.2017 International Day of Tolerance International Day for Tolerance On the occasion of the International Day of Tolerance, on November 16, the Ombudsmen of Bosnia and Herzegovina call for respect, acceptance and appreciation of diversity. The Ombudsmen point out that the aim of the fight against discrimination is to eliminate the feeling of inequalities among people and invite all institutions and individuals to respect the principles of tolerance. In order to successfully combat discrimination and intolerance, society must be ready to reject stereotypes and prejudices and be more tolerant towards incidents that are incompatible with the views of the majority, because the way in which society relates to everything that is different reflects its wealth and progressiveness. The Ombudsmen are of the opinion that for effective fight against discrimination is not enough only to adopt legal solutions, but it is crucial to ensure their effective and proper application, primarily by strengthening institutions that can respond to the task of providing anti-discrimination protection. The Institution of the Ombudsman as a central institution for protection against discrimination takes measures in order to promote the realization of citizens' rights, as well as to build a society based on the principles of tolerance, respect, dialogue and cooperation between different ethnic, religious and linguistic groups.
