Press statement | 08.02.2017 Ombudspersons analyze implementation of the rights of children to free insulin pumps in Bosnia and Herzegovina Children, Illustation Having recognized the importance of ensuring the equal access and opportunities in enjoyment of health care with no discrimination on any grounds, in 2012 Ombudspersons of Bosnia and Herzegovina prepared the Special report on health care in Bosnia and Herzegovina in which they indicated to the weaknesses of the health care system in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ombudspersons think that that the enjoyment of the right to free insulin pumps by all the children in Bosnia and Herzegovina should be secured regardless to entity of their residence. Ombudspersons state that health insurance institutes in Bosnia and Herzegovina expressed their readiness to find solution that will lead to the equality of all children in need to insulin pumps and these pumps be treated as a free medical aid. Following the analysis of the replies to the Recommendation of the Ombudsman no.: P-109/16, Ombudspersons stated that the Health Insurance Institute of Bosnia-Drina Canton included the insulin pump into the list which is a part of the Decision on the scope of rights and entitlements of insured persons to use of orthopedic and other devices provided on the account of the Health Insurance Institute of Bosnia-Drina Canton Goražde. Ombudspersons commend this decision. Therefore, Ombudspersons are satisfied by the fact that their recommendation was implemented by the competent authorities, which should be continued in order for all the children in Bosnia and Herzegovina to have equal opportunities to enjoy the highest attainable level of health care.
