New Year's Reception for Journalists

Ombudspersons of Bosnia and Herzegovina organized today a traditional New Year's reception for media representatives.

At the reception, which was held on the premises of the Central Office of the Institution of Human Rights Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Banja Luka, Ombudsman Ljubinko Mitrović thanked journalists for their professionalism in reporting on the activities of the Institution, and conveyed greetings of Ombudspersons Jasminka Džumhur, PhD and Nives Jukić.

The reception was an opportunity to summarize the results of the work of the Ombudsman in the previous year, and also an opportunity to discuss how to improve future cooperation in order to promote and protect human rights, and also to improve the position of journalists.

Mitrović said that it was a continuation of a very nice tradition - meetings with representatives of the media at the beginning of the new calendar year and an opportunity to hold an informal conversation with each other to exchange information about enhancing the future cooperation.

In his address he informed the participants about the most important current issues in the work of the Ombudsman and plans for the future.

He stressed that the institution of the Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2016 made a series of important activities, among other things, in the field of removal of architectural barriers for people with disabilities, the establishment of office days, making special reports, and establishing a closer cooperation with law schools in BiH, as well as other activities aimed at protecting and improving the human rights situation, particularly of vulnerable groups.

Ombudsman Mitrović on this occasion underlined the importance of the process of re-accreditation of the Institution of Human Rights Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Subcommittee on Accreditation of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, and related amendments to the Law on Human Rights Ombudsman.

Ombudsman Ljubinko Mitrović, PhD, pointed out that the Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina remains open to communication with the press, as it sees good partners in the media.

The journalists who attended the reception were given traditional gifts, calendars, diaries and notebooks with the Ombudsman’s logo.
