Press statement | 13.06.2016 Ombudsperson Jasminka Džumhur at the meeting on combating trafficking in human beings Human Trafficking, Illustration On 09 June 2016 Ombudsperson of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mr.Sci. Jasminka Džumhur attended a meeting of the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) and the Ministry of Health of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) is entrusted with assessment of implementation of the Council of Europe Convention Against the Trafficking in Human Beings by the state-parties that ratified it through the country visits and discussion with relevant interest groups. Experience and possibility of the Human Rights Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the field of combating trafficking in human beings, the number of complaints received relating to this area, as well as community awareness about the problem were discussed at this meeting. In particular, participants discussed the possibilities of prevention of trafficking through better legislation and administration. Further course of discussion emphasized the efforts that Bosnia and Herzegovina and its entities invested in the creation of both criminal and misdemeanor legislation in the area of human trafficking. At the end of the meeting it was concluded that better protection of victims of trafficking through better legislation, social measures and coordination of the competent authorities is necessary as it was agreed to further cooperation between the Human Rights Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina and representatives of the Group of Experts on Action Against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) in order to address these systemic problems.
